Embrace Equity
Being included, and feeling like you belong is awesome! It just feels right! When we embrace equity, we’re embracing diversity, inclusion and togetherness. We need to work towards equity so that we can all succeed together! At the end of the day, equality is the goal and equity is how we’re going to get there. Are you with us?
Gender equality aims to provide equal opportunities for both men and women, but gender equity goes a step further to address opportunities to individuals of different genders, while recognizing their unique challenges and the differences in their needs and experiences. For example, providing equal access to education for men and women may not be sufficient to achieve gender equity if cultural norms and practices prevent women from attending school. In such cases, gender equity requires addressing the unique challenges faced by women to ensure they have the same opportunities as men.
Equity Creates an Inclusive World
Gender equity can take various forms, depending on the specific needs of different individuals. For instance, it could involve providing flexible work arrangements for individuals with caregiving responsibilities or ensuring equal pay for individuals performing the same job. These actions may not necessarily provide equal treatment, but rather fair and equivalent treatment based on individual needs, obligations, and benefits.
Gender equity is a crucial aspect of achieving gender equality. By recognizing that men and women may have different needs and experiences and addressing these differences, we can work towards creating a more just and inclusive society.
We all have the power to challenge gender stereotypes, speak out against discrimination, raise awareness of bias, and actively seek inclusivity. Collective activism is the driving force behind change. Be part of the movement: Engage & Participate in International Women’s Day events 2023
